EU Open Day 2024

Celebrate multilingualism with DG SCIC

Event description

Join DG SCIC at this year's EU Open Day on Saturday 4 May in the iconic Berlaymont building from 10.00 to 18.00 and celebrate multilingualism in the elegant Schuman room.

Over the course of the day, DG SCIC will offer 26 diverse presentations in approximately 12 languages, each lasting 15 minutes and interpreted into English, French, German and Dutch. Highlights include a special session marking the 20th anniversary of the 2004 enlargement, as well as talks on the upcoming European Parliament elections, working as an interpreter or translator, the nuances of conference organisation, and the latest in speech technologies. As in previous years, visitors will be able to enter the booth and try out interpretation themselves!

Next to these presentations, DG SCIC and DG Translation will host a stand in front of the Schuman room where you can get hands-on experience with speech technology tools.

Beyond the Schuman room, visitors can venture through thematic villages and delve into EU history, our values, and the Commission's achievements. Whether it's exploring an exhibition showcasing 30 years of the Single Market, tasting European farm products, or enjoying artistic performances, there's something for everyone!

Full details can be found on the dedicated Europa site and be sure to check out the schedule of presentations in the Schuman room.

You can also follow the event on social media using the hashtags #EuropeDay, #EUOpenDay, and #EUInterpreters.

We're looking forward to sharing this unique day with you!
