KCI Careers Corner held on 12th March

irish uni

On the 12th of March the KCI Careers Corner hosted an outreach event on career opportunities for interpreters in the English and Irish booth. This session was aimed at students and teaching staff at universities across the island of Ireland, and was, for the first time in the history of the Careers Corner, a fully bilingual event.

The presentation was given in both Irish and English, with interpreting provided from Irish into English. The event was introduced by Morag Neath, head of the English and Irish interpreting unit (Directorate-General for Interpretation), and by Michael Williams of the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU. They both stressed the opportunities available to Irish graduates in interpreting, and more broadly in the EU institutions.

Staff interpreters from the English and Irish unit set out how DG Interpretation functions and detailed the various paths for graduates into the interpreting profession.
