In the framework of the cooperation between SCIC and UNOG (United Nations Geneva), Fernando Leitão, from SCIC’s Interpreter training support team, and Garry Mullender, UNOG staff interpreter, conducted a day-and-a-half seminar on Interpretation into the B language.
17 participants from all UN languages took part. The seminar was composed of three workshops consisting of organised discussions on relevant points related to retour acquisition and practice, and interpretation exercises. Back to back to the seminar, Fernando Leitão ran a workshop on the Speech Repository (SR), SCIC’s on-line speech-bank tool, for the UN staff interpreters, mostly from the Arab, Chinese and Russian booths, who are interested in collaborating and contributing to the SR, either as speakers or as graders, who assess the difficulty of the speeches for training purposes. In addition, SCIC will be very soon organising Virtual training classes with partner universities in conjunction with UNOG.
