KCI goes global: the platform is now available in Chinese

Multilingualism is our first priority. It could not be otherwise

In a continuous effort to make our content more accessible, and as a consequence of our audience getting bigger, we finally have the pleasure to announce the complete translation of the Knowledge Centre on Interpretation into Chinese.

As the interpreting service of the European Commissionmultilingualism is our first priority. It could not be otherwise: that is why we started, as you all know, with the translation of the platform into the 24 official EU languages with the help of our sister service, the translation service of the European Commission.

But we did not want to limit ourselves to Europe’s linguistic borders, we wanted to share our information with the rest of the world! That is why we want with the time to incorporate the translations of the KCI into the UN official languages for the benefit of the world interpreting community: English, French, Spanish (already present as official languages of the EU) and then Arabic, Russian and of course Chinese.

For several years, we have been cooperating with the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), so we decided to put this good relationship to work and their translation department helped us in the huge task of translating our tool into Chinese. We are immensely grateful for this and at the same time, we think that this shows how synergies between partners can be of benefit to the whole community. The enthusiasm and commitment of all the parts concerned is beyond compare and we really hope that with this our audience and possibilities in China will grow. SCIC would also like to thank our interpreter colleague from the Bejing EU Delegation, Mr Tom Peart, for his invaluable help in proofreading the content.

From now on Chinese will also be a language that can be used to interact with the KCI, meaning that Communities and Forums can also be created and used in that language. This, together with the most recent technical improvements and other features to come, will make our platform an even better space for sharing, connecting and exchanging and ensure a more open and inclusive user experience.
