DG Interpretation tools

DG Interpretation has developed a number of training tools over the years to help students and trainers of conference interpreting.

Training for Trainers

DG Interpretation organises 'Training for Trainers' (TFT) seminars in Brussels on a regular basis, with a duration of five days, for interpreting trainers in partner universities from Member States and candidate countries, but also from third countries like Russia and Africa in the framework of PAMCIT (Pan-African Master's Consortium in Interpretation and Translation).

Virtual classes explained

Virtual classes are training sessions, lasting 2-2:30 hours, organised by videoconference with partner universities. Interpreters from DG Interpretation with training experience are assigned to specific sessions as trainers and speakers.

Teaching assistance in universities

Teaching assistance, or 'pedagogical assistance' (PA) as it is called in-house in DG Interpretation, is  assistance given in situ in the universities with whom we cooperate and who are training conference interpreters.

Definition

The International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) defines interpreting as the practice of conveying the meaning of a speaker's message orally and in another language to listeners who would not otherwise understand. Conference interpreting is carried out at multilingual meetings between for example representatives of national governments, international organisations or non-governmental organisations, to name but a few.
