Establishing a European platform and marketplace for multilingual and multimodal language data
On 19 January 2023, the service contract between the European Commission and a consortium of four partners on the creation and implementation of a Common European Language Data Space (LDS) came into force.
The goal of this project is to establish a European platform and marketplace for the collection, creation, sharing and re-use of multilingual and multimodal language data.
During the recent Data Spaces Symposium (The Hague, 21-23 March 2023), LDS Coordinator Georg Rehm introduced the European Language Data Space in the subcategory Culture heritage, language, media, skills, outlining the plans and potentials of the Language Data Space and the emerging EDIC (European Digital Infrastructure Consortium) in the next three years.
On 16 May, the first coordination and alignment meeting between the Language Data Space and the Data Spaces Support Center project will take place.
