E-learning

E-learning is self-paced learning which makes use of new multimedia technologies for training. The use of the Internet improves the quality of learning by facilitating access to resources and services, as well as remote exchanges and collaboration. Through sound, graphics and interactivity, e-learning provides the learner with a multi-sensory learning experience that allows increased comprehension and knowledge retention.

Over time, e-learning has evolved, offering more flexible training solutions such as blended learning. Blended learning is a mix of self-paced learning and classroom training. The face-to-face component can be associated with e-learning in many ways. The proportion of face-to-face training may vary from one course to another.

Both e-learning and blended learning have clear advantages from the point of view of organising professional support actions for interpreters at DG Interpretation. It allows overcoming some of the difficulties of finding suitable dates for courses. With a series of sessions organised with the blended method, the interpreters participating in a given course will only need to be available on the same date and time for the classroom sessions and can carry out the e-learning part when it suits them best.

DG Interpretation is currently developing its online learning offer. The resulting relevant material online (e.g. DG Interpretation online courses, links to open source courses and presentations, recorded presentations) will be made available, to the extent possible, in the Knowledge Centre on Interpretation.
